| The Future Problem Solving Program (FPSP) engages students in creative problem solving. Founded by creativity pioneer in the 1970’s, Dr. E. Paul Torrance, FPSP is designed to stimulate critical thinking skills and is aligned with many of the Washington State Essential Learnings. In this program, students research a given topic, discuss current and future challenges inherit in most modern societies, develop solutions to the challenges and design a program which will help solve the many challenges as presented in the future scenario. The Future Problem Solving Program involves over 250,000 students annually from the United States, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Korea, Malaysia, and Russia. Henderson Bay High School is proud to be a part of this prestigious program for Washington State.
This year in FPSP, Henderson Bay students competed in four scenarios: Global Warming/Climate Change, First Amendment Rights and Responsibilities, Nutrition, and Redistribution of Wealth. Each topic requires students to compete with other teams from around Washington State. If teams are successful, they are invited to attend the State Competition in Warm Beach; over 350 students compete at the State Bowl in April. This school year we are proud to announce that one team and two individual competitors were invited to State Bowl. Evan and Jon placed second and third respectively in the senior individual competition.
